I didn't grow up with connections, counselors, or college coaches. I grew up in a two-bedroom apartment in Guam, in a financially unstable household, with parents who filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy and zero exposure to elite academic institutions. There was no blueprint — so I built my own.
I cold-emailed professors, turned my kitchen into a DIY lab, and spent years independently developing a research project that ultimately won Best of Category at the Intel ISEF — the first time anyone had done so from the entire Oceania region. And when the time came, I applied to college with no institutional support, no legacy status, no consultant… and earned a full-ride to Stanford University.
That experience didn't just change my life — it shaped my mission.
Today, I lead Kang Consulting, a personalized research and college admissions practice built entirely through referrals and student success. I've helped students from all backgrounds — from underserved communities to international Olympiad winners — gain admission into Harvard, MIT, Stanford, Yale, and Princeton, and win top honors at ISEF, Regeneron STS, and other elite global research competitions.

To start, I see myself as an outlier in college admissions. I wasn't a cookie-cutter applicant, like most HYPSM admits or even my brother, Daniel. I didn't have a perfect 4.0 UW GPA, an amazing SAT/ACT score, an award like First at ISEF, or a recommendation letter from someone extremely distinguished. I just knew what colleges wanted to see, and in the most difficult admissions cycle, I was able to gain admission to Stanford and Ivy League schools like Yale on full ride scholarships totaling $1,000,000+.
Experienced in various admission portals and approaching college admissions through a unique thematic lens, I have personally admitted kids into UPenn Wharton and other prestigious Ivy Leagues before even applying to university myself. I’ve mentored high school students to win ISEF’s grand awards and special awards, using my experience in winning internationally at both Regeneron ISEF and TISF. By navigating colleges from a low-income household, growing up with a STEM whiz of a brother, I’ve charted my own path interning at the National Institute of Health (NIH), pursuing field oriented marine biology research and even pursuing novel extracurriculars like translating Korean webtoon for millions of readers.
